Cat Rescue of Cloverdale's story began long before our official name, and even outside of Cloverdale. From a very young age, our founder, Katie, felt an undeniable connection to every cat and kitten she encountered. As a three-year-old, she befriended not only her neighbors' five cats but also the other felines roaming her Santa Rosa neighborhood.
Katie's desire to help cats has been a constant throughout her life. At just eight years old, she found a tiny kitten in the streets. Katie named this kitten Ruby, who went on to live a long and happy 18 and a half years. Ruby was just the first of many cats Katie brought into her life. As she grew older, the number of cats she found increased, and in those early days, most found a long life in her home with her parents and siblings.
Over the years, Katie worked as a professional pet sitter, caring for cats, dogs, horses, and goats as a side venture while pursuing other passions and her full-time career. During this time, she rescued every dog she found on the streets, from Long Beach to Porterville to Cloverdale, reuniting them with their owners or helping them find forever homes.
More recently, after moving to Cloverdale and settling into a more permanent home, Katie became acutely aware of the local cat overpopulation. In the past few years, multiple cats seeking consistent meals and warm beds found their way to her doorstep. One by one, they received the attention they craved, and Katie found them loving homes.
